Surplus Sale

General information

The standard life of a computer is 3-4 years. Once a computer surpasses that age it is kept on as a team or testing computer or it is sold to employees as surplus.

Computers sold to employees are sold at a price generally quite lower than any online price listed for an equivalent used computer. These computers have been wiped and are ready for use. Windows computers are wiped with a general admin user and no password. Apple computers are wiped without a user being setup.

The best way to get the most recent information on surplus sales is to join the #surplus_sale Slack channel and ask questions there.

Things to know before requesting an item for the surplus sale
  • All items are sold "as is" and all sales are final. You can inspect the item before purchasing it. IT has done basic tests on each item being sold but they have not done extensive tests. It is up to you to determine if you are willing to accept the quality of the item being sold.
  • Laptop batteries have not been tested. You should have the expectation that the battery capacity is not in good condition.
  • Laptop battery chargers will be given out with laptops as available. If a charger is no longer available with the purchase of a laptop, a link will be provided for you so you can purchase a third party charger and the overall price of the laptop will be reduced by $10.
  • You are only allowed to purchase a single item at a time. While you can request more than one item, only the first available item will be sold to you. Once you have completed the purchase of an item, you can make another request.
  • Requests will be fulfilled in the order that they are made.

All questions should be sent in the @surplus_sale Slack channel or as a ticket at ithelp.efilecabinet.com
